The International Centre of Excellence Casa Paganini - Infomus Lab has the objective to cross-fertilize scientific and technological research with humanistic and artistic research. Research explores the relationships between music, science and emerging technologies: a mission that recalls Niccolò Paganini´s spirit of experimentation. Casa Paganini - InfoMus Lab studies new directions in scientific and technological research to improve quality of life (e.g., therapy and rehabilitation, leisure, sport, edutainment), to develop novel industrial applications and services (e.g., new innovative interfaces and multimedia applications, active music listening), to contribute to culture (e.g., museography, support cultural heritage through new technologies).

The 5th International Summer Workshop on Multimodal Interfaces
The previous eNTERFACE workshops, namely eNTERFACE'05 in Mons, Belgium; eNTERFACE'06 in Dubrovnik, Croatia; eNTERFACE'07 in Istanbul, Turkey; eNTERFACE'08 in Paris, France had an impressive success record and had proven the viability and usefulness of this original workshop. eNTERFACE workshops have already inspired competitive projects in the area of multimodal interfaces, have secured the contributions of leading professionals and have encouraged participation of a large number of graduate and undergraduate students. We expect that eNTERFACE'09 at Casa Paganini-InfoMus Lab (DIST, Università degli Studi di Genova) will continue and take this line of fruitful collaboration one step further.

The Art of Listening
The first production of the study of phonology RAI in Milan was a Portrait of Cities, that Luciano Berio and Bruno Maderna painted with electronic colors and brushes (as described by Prieberg, sound complex, everyday denatured sounds copied from life, filtered sounds mingled into an original reportage able to reach the lyric quality of the true poetry, drawing an acoustic sketch of the city). Not only this idea of broadcasting a city of sound, but the original conception of a radiophony as dramaturgic research on the acoustic event, of a musical representation of the sound scenery, has found hospitality and development in German culture.
This event will see the participation of Götz Naleppa, playwright and director of the German radio DeutschlandRadio, and Nicola Bernardini who will present, in dialogue (of sounds and words) with the authors Nicola Sani and Alvin Curran, some musical portraits of cities, ordered for the famous series "Metropolis" of the Study of Acoustics Art of the German radio WDR to artists able to discover and reveal the sound of their cities with the visionary poetry of electronic technologies. Meeting with the composer Heiner Göbbels

Monday 3 November 2008, the artist Heiner Goebbels, the creator of Surrogate Cities, master of a composition as staging, urban overlap of ancient massing and new materials, meets the public in the frame of Casa Paganini, to speak about himself and about that vision of the world that takes life into his theatrical-musical compositions. Order and chaos, illusion and reality mingle into the sound simulation, resulting in extraordinary artistic creations.
A special occasion, made even more unique from the video of his last work Stifters Dinge, produced by the Théâtre Vidy - Lausanne (Switzerland) and presented in preview to the Festival.

Strade di Suoni - Cimenti di Invenzione e Armonia a Casa Paganini III
From Thursday 23rd October to Tuesday 4th November 2008, Casa Paganini will host its third interactive exhibition on music and new technologies in collaboration with Festival della Scienza.
Recalling and renewing the experiences of past editions, the exhibition of this year conceives the area of Casa Paganini as a sound and visionary "city of cities". The most innovative technologies, produced by InfoMus Lab research, will turn each rooms into invisible and wonderful maps, able to take life when a visitor goes along them, changing into sounds, music, colours and narrations. As in any exploration, imagination and commitment will allow the pleasure of discovery. But with the awareness that in this enchanted space, where art and technology dream their place together, every discovery defines always a single, personal, inimitable and unrepeatable invention. The exhibition is realized with the partial contribution of the European projects FP7 ICT SAME and Culture 2007 Co.Me.Di.A.

NIME (International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression)
Genova, June 5 to 7. Opening concert at Casa Paganini on June 4th. NIME consists of a three full-day event where research papers, demos, and performances will be presented on the state-of-the-art concerning new interfaces for musical expression. NIME will include Workshops just before and after the main conference providing focus on special areas close to the NIME community.
NIME events will be in different places and institutions in Genoa: Casa Paganini, the Music Conservatory "Niccolò Paganini", the Museo d'arte contemporanea Villa Croce, the Casa della Musica.

4th Summer School on Sound and Music Computing
The Summer School on Sound and Music Computing (SMC) will follow the NIME 2008 Conference at Casa Paganini, with the goal of promoting interdisciplinary education and research in the field of SMC. The school will be held at Casa Paganini from 9 to 11 June 2008.

Workshop "Laboratorio di imprenditorialità" (in Italian)
Registrations for "Laboratorio di imprenditorialità: come mettersi in proprio", held by "Polo del Mediterraneo per le Arti" with the partnership of Domus Academy and Campus magazine, are open. Courses will start on April 8th under the guide of Alberto Bonisoli at Teatro Stabile, at Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti, at Conservatorio Niccolò Paganini and at Casa Paganini (21 and 22 April).
